Back to the Drawing Board

Amidst unpacking the many boxes from Brooklyn, setting up a new office location, social media postings and business meetings' agita, our family tree is budding a new branch. Congratulations to Christoper and Marilyn on their nuptials and baby announcement.

Hmmmm, you two have created two new zias in our family. Luckily we have plenty of time to figure it out, although I may take dibs on being called "Prima." We'll just have to see. A little birdie told me this new development has also recreated a "Nana" (who coincidentally lives in Providence and cooks both arancini and ricotta pie). Life is good!

So, I am back to my hunting and pecking (Does that make me a hunter & pecker?--no comments, Jonathan) about our family stories. If for no other reason, at least Marilyn will know what she's getting into and in time, their sweet baby will understand a bit about our shared roots. Jesse, Brandon and Tasha are already well indoctrinated, having met Poppie in the flesh. If that didn't scare them off, nothing will.

Speaking of Gootz, tomorrow would have been his 88th birthday. The two zias are planning to attend Mass in the morning, take a drive to the beach and drink our lunch. If you are able, please make a toast to Poppie (He liked Italian or sesame bagels) and smile. He would have been thrilled at all the successes his family has achieved in the past year: promotions, school, love found, new jobs/endeavors...the works. We are all a tribute to Nana, Grandpa Vincenzo, Ma & Poppie. If you listen closely, you can here them clinking their glasses as they salute their progeny.

Love to you all.

  1. Prima,
Congrats to my Ian for his new job. Congrats to Tasha for her new apt.

I can remember being 10 years old in Brooklyn and being in Nana's first floor bathroom (NO I was not using it.-Only looking!!)I was thinking wil I ever be a mother. Some kids wanted to be dancers or hair stylists ( big back than 1959) I wanted to be a mother.

In 1976, I got my childhood wish and again in 1978, 1979, and 1981. I never thought I would be so lucky!!!! I would ask Ma & Nana, Am I a good mother? Yes they would say and roll their eyes at me. Someday You will be a good Grandmother. That's okay. I would say As long as I am a good mother.
Well I guess they are rolling their eyes at me again and saying Told you so -Now It's your turn to be a good Nana- Don't screw it up! :)

So I raise my glass to Ma & Nana, Poppy and Grandpa Vincenzo- Hope I do as good a job as you guys did.

    Love
    Nana 2

  2. You are well on your way.

You already have "qualcosa di buono da mangiare", dance while you cook, use the original Vella bread board while making pizza or pasta and sing in Italian. You've got the smallest female feet of all the women in the family (although no high instep), make your own hooch like Grandma Nespoli and have a removable dental bridge to scare the new baby with. You are a synthesis of all the Grandmothers. Best of all, I can't wait to see how you make this role your own.
